Distinguishing Features: Needles in bundles of 2 and very sharp
  • Type: Evergreen
  • Form at maturity: Generally 50 to 70, 20 to 40 feet wide, pyramidal and dense when young (upto 30 feet tall), with age becomes flat-topped, with spreading branches and umbrella shape
  • Leaf: Dark army green colored, 4 to 6 inches long needles in twos, candles (buds) 0.5 to 1 inch long, light brown, resinous
  • Flower: Male flowers yellowish, in clusters, Female flowers are yellow-green
  • Bark: Thick, irregular, gray-brown to silvery plates, deep furrows dark brown
  • Fruit or Seed: 2 to 3 inches long, approximately 2 inches wide shiny yellow-brown cones
